Demon Princes of the Seven Deadly Sins
Overview
The Seven Demon Princes (also called the Seven Princes of Hell) are the chief demons who govern the Seven Deadly Sins in Christian demonology. This classification was formalized by Peter Binsfeld in 1589 and expanded in esoteric traditions including Ralf Maucher's "Archons - Hidden Rulers Through The Ages."

Source Classifications
Peter Binsfeld (1589)
German bishop Peter Binsfeld published his classification linking demons to deadly sins, which became the standard reference in demonology.
Ralf Maucher - Archons
In "Archons - Hidden Rulers Through The Ages," Maucher provides additional esoteric details:
- Identifies Mammon with Archangel Gabriel as a fallen light being
- Provides synchronicity numbers for force-field identification
- Connects the demons to planetary and zodiacal influences
Planetary Correspondences
Each demon is associated with a classical planet:
Sun → Lucifer (Pride)
Moon → Belphegor (Sloth)
Mercury → Leviathan (Envy)
Venus → Asmodeus (Lust)
Mars → Satan (Wrath)
Jupiter → Beelzebub (Gluttony)
Saturn → Mammon (Greed)
Gnostic Connection
In Gnostic tradition, these demons correspond to the Seven Archons who rule the seven planetary zones (hebdomad). Each Archon guards their sphere, preventing souls from ascending to the divine realm.
The sins they represent are the vices that bind consciousness to the material world.
The Fallen Light Beings
According to Maucher's framework:
- Some demons are identified with archangels as fallen light beings
- Mammon = Archangel Gabriel (fallen)
- These entities control humans through the subconscious
- They operate as archetypal force-fields in the personal shadow
Hierarchical Structure
The demon princes rule over legions of lesser demons:
- Lucifer commands pride demons
- Mammon commands greed/avarice demons
- Asmodeus commands lust demons
- Satan commands wrath/violence demons
- Beelzebub commands gluttony demons
- Leviathan commands envy demons
- Belphegor commands sloth/apathy demons
The Opposing Virtues
Each sin has an opposing virtue that provides protection:
| Sin | Virtue | Practice |
|---|---|---|
| Pride | Humility | Selflessness, service |
| Greed | Charity | Generosity, detachment |
| Lust | Chastity | Moderation, sacred sexuality |
| Wrath | Patience | Forgiveness, emotional regulation |
| Gluttony | Temperance | Mindful consumption |
| Envy | Kindness | Celebrating others' success |
| Sloth | Diligence | Discipline, consistent effort |
